Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants work alongside medical providers in ambulatory care clinics, and perform a wide variety of clinical duties. These duties include rooming patients, collecting patient vital signs, managing medication, assisting in minor procedures, performing venipuncture (phlebotomy), and much more. They are also trained to perform a variety of administrative duties.

Our program uses a "cohort model" of delivery. This means that our students start the program together, learn together, and graduate together.

We are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and our program graduates are eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) National Credentialing Exam as well as other national exam opportunities.

LBCC’s Medical Assistant program is a one-year program that provides training in office administration, medical procedures, and people skills necessary for a successful medical career.

Medical Assistant, One-Year Certificate

This one-year certificate will prepare you with a variety of office administrative and medical skills in providing patient care, primarily in an outpatient setting.

Medical Assistant students pay the same tuition and fees as other students for their coursework (see our average cost). For courses with clinical components, there may be additional fees.

Medical Assistant students also have some unique starting costs:

  • Criminal background check: $72
  • Drug test: $65
  • Health and training documentation: $50

Fully accepted Medical Assistant students will receive additional cost details covering equipment, travel, etc.

Program Goals

The goals of the Medical Assistant program are:

  1. To promote a safe and equitable learning environment
  2. To maintain program accreditation from The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP)
  3. To prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession
  4. To graduate students who can pass the national exam on the first attempt
  5. To help all graduates secure the medical assistant job they desire
