About the LBCC Distinguished Staff Award
Established in 1980, the LBCC Distinguished Staff award is presented to an employee
each year for their substantial contribution to the college.
About the LBCC Pastega Excellence Awards
The LBCC Pastega Excellence Awards were established in 2001 by the Mario and Alma
Pastega Foundation to honor LBCC faculty and classified staff for their outstanding
contributions to the college.
Distinguished Staff Award - Nomination Form
The Distinguished Staff award is given for a substantial contribution of both time and energy to the college.
The awardee is recognized with a plaque that will be on display in the Calapooia Center
Distinguished Staff gallery.
Selection Criteria
Outstanding nominee contributions could include areas such as:
- Exemplifying and contributing to the college’s mission and values
- Community involvement
- Program development/support
- Innovative instruction
- College relations
- Recognition on a state or national level for contributions or service
- Breadth of involvement on campus
- Positive influence on colleagues
- Consistent outstanding performance

Instructional or workplace innovation
- Student and/or staff advocacy
Pastega Faculty Excellence Award - Nomination Form
The Pastega Faculty Excellence Award is intended to provide recognition and encouragement for academic excellence by a continuing contracted faculty member. An emphasis will be placed on recent excellence in facilitating the learning process.
The recipient will receive a $1,000 honorarium and their name engraved on the Mario
and Alma Pastega Faculty Excellence plaque in the Distinguished Staff Gallery in the
Calapooia Center.
Selection Criteria
Outstanding nominee contributions should exemplify LBCC values of Opportunity, Excellence,
Inclusiveness, Learning and Engagement in their daily work at LBCC. They could do
so in areas such as such as:
Teaching – Exceptional contributions in the teaching-learning process, including mastery of
subject matter, innovative curriculum development and instructional design, establishing
a positive learning environment and relationship with students.
Learner Support and Development – Exceptional contributions to students’ personal, social, academic, or career-oriented
growth. Demonstrated excellence in participating in or developing/coordinating instructional
support activities, advising, testing, retention/recruitment, consultation, counseling
or special events.
Communication, Collaboration and Professionalism – Exceptional involvement with internal and external constituencies of the college
to improve the quality of teaching and learning and the work environment at LBCC.
Demonstrated excellence in professional and collegial attitude and abilities which
contribute to the growth and well-being of the department, division and the college.
Community Partnerships – Exceptional skills in developing partnerships with individuals, groups and organizations
outside of the college. Demonstrated leadership and excellence in the development
and management of grants, contracts and other joint activities or coordinating services
between the college and community partners.
Professional Development – Achieved excellence in content expertise, scholarship, skill or professional behavior.
Involvement and leadership in professional organizations, accreditation activities,
and college-wide professional development programs.
Pastega Classified Excellence Award - Nomination Form
The Classified Excellence Award is intended to provide recognition and encouragement for superior performance by a contracted classified employee. An emphasis will be placed on recent performance.
The recipient will receive a $1,000 honorarium and their name engraved on the Mario
and Alma Pastega Faculty Excellence plaque in the Distinguished Staff Gallery in the
Calapooia Center.
Selection Criteria
Outstanding nominee contributions should exemplify LBCC values of Opportunity, Excellence,
Inclusiveness, Learning and Engagement in their daily work at LBCC. They could do
so in areas such as:
- Accomplishment of a project that made a significant impact or contribution to campus operations
- Campus committee participation
- Professional development through education and/or training
- Community service
