Coding and Reimbursement Specialist

Careers & Salaries

Coders are becoming increasingly more significant in the healthcare field. Certification in coding is national, so the career skill-set transfers well to any location in the country. Over the past five years, 91% of our Healthcare Coding graduates who have sought work outside our local area (e.g. in Portland, Salem and Eugene) have successfully navigated into coding positions directly after graduating and passing the national coding exam.

Of students applying to LBCC locally, about half of our graduates are selected for coding positions each year. The rest begin their careers in affiliated positions (see below). On average over the past five years, within one year, these graduates transition into a coding position, either at the facility in which they started, or recruited by another provider with a need for a certified coder. A few examples of job titles in this field include:

  • Healthcare Coder
  • Patient Account Clerk
  • Insurance Billing Clerk
  • Accounts Receivable Clerk
