Purpose

Following is the job description for the President of Linn-Benton Community College.

• Directly: Vice presidents (2); Foundation Executive Director; Executive Director, Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Executive Director, Human Resources Development and Support, and Executive Assistant to the President and Board of Education
• Indirectly: Responsible for all college management, faculty, and classified staff.

Job Summary

The president serves as the chief executive officer of the College and reports directly to the Board of Education. The president is responsible for the overall operation and management of the College by initiating and directing the work necessary to fulfill the College’s mission through:

• Promoting strong partnerships within the service area, including actively working with local education, government, business and industry, and community and civic leaders.
• Working collaboratively within and outside the College to ensure that the College remains financially stable, while building consensus for common goals among faculty and staff in providing education and training services to students.
• Continuing visionary leadership in local, state and national policies and practices.
• Innovating and taking strategic risks in service to the College’s mission, while maintaining communication and collaboration to build support for change.
• Improving student retention and completion rates.

Opportunities and Challenges

The president will provide strong leadership with respect to opportunities and challenges with which the College may be presented. The president is uniquely positioned to develop and recommend innovative policies and practices to the Board of Education for their consideration that serve the best interests of the College and its students. The president will:

• Address enrollment and programs that are not graduating students; assist faculty and staff in program marketing to improve retention and completion rates.
• Understand the population of Linn and Benton counties, generational poverty, and the challenges faced in educating all generations on the idea that education is the biggest tool to improve standards of living.
• Promote learning through diversity of viewpoints and multiple perspectives.
• Address the barriers to student success outside of the classroom, such as childcare costs and housing insecurity.
• Increase specialized training to meet the local needs of employees and provide additional CTE programs where jobs are open/plentiful.
• Increase both public and private resources, including working with the state legislature to increase funding, fundraising, and bolstering current and new partnerships with businesses.
• Advance student success initiatives and the academic mission of the College by further developing a well-credentialed faculty focused on teaching and learning.
• Promote professional innovation among faculty and staff and continue to work collaboratively to create a shared vision for LBCC.
• Develop the priorities of the College to serve the needs of the community on an ongoing basis

• Transparency in decision-making, which values employees and their expertise.
• Demonstrates a deep understanding of data and its use in higher education and has the ability to review data and analytics to best serve the LBCC community.
• A politically savvy collaborator who has experience working with a state legislature.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a governing board.
• Demonstrated ability in collective bargaining and employee contracts.
• Understanding of generational poverty, hunger and housing insecurity.
• Knowledge and appreciation of accreditation processes and standards.
• Demonstrated success with school district partnerships, dual enrollment and articulation agreements to support recruitment and enrollment of students.
• Understanding and leadership ability to encourage innovation and need for effective instructional and administrative technology support systems.
• A demonstrated track record of strong ethical decisions, honest leadership, and strong morals and character; displays integrity and compassion.
• The ability to create lasting change by building a sense of urgency, creating strong plans and strategies, collaborating and listening to all constituents, and implementing and evaluating change initiatives with accountability-focused data and evidence.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• Doctorate or equivalent is preferred.  An extensive background and experience as a senior level administrator is required.
