Administrative Rule 1030-01
Timely Warnings Altering the Campus to Threats to Safety
Purpose
To provide safeguards against threats to safety for the college community and to advance the college values of inclusion, excellence, and learning through compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act.
Statement
General
In accordance with the requirements of the Clery Act, LBCC will issue a timely warning for any crime occurring within our immediate geographic area that may pose a serious or continuing threat to persons or property in our campus community.
Timely Warning Protocols
Timely warnings regarding a crime that has occurred and that represents a continuing health or safety threat will be confirmed for accuracy by the Director of Safety & Loss Prevention. Such warnings will generally be issued by the campus Public Safety Office after consultation with a college Vice President, the college President, or any appropriate combination thereof.
The notice will be issued as soon as the pertinent information is available and will be communicated using the broadest type of notice that is reasonable and necessary under the circumstances. The notice will be issued to the affected area of campus or to the entire campus as appropriate. A notice that needs to be shared college wide may be delivered through college electronic mail, the emergency messaging system, the college’s public address system, and/or website alerts.
Timely warnings will conform to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA does restrict the use of personally identifying information under some circumstances. FERPA does allow the use of personally identifying information when there is a need to protect the health or safety of students or employees.
Anyone who needs to report a circumstance that presents an urgent health or safety concern for students or employees should immediately contact Public Safety.
