Board Policy 1020
Government Ethics and Conflicts of Interest
Purpose
To ensure ongoing compliance with ORS Chapter 244, Government Ethics, on the part of college employees and members of the Board of Education. It is the further goal of this policy to assure that all employees and board members have knowledge of and direct access to the specific text of ORS 244 so that each of us may have all the necessary knowledge necessary to conduct ourselves in an ethical manner at all times in the course of our business dealings.
Statement
It is expected that all employees and board members of Linn-Benton Community College shall comply with the entirety of ORS Chapter 244, Government Ethics, as amended. While all aspects of government ethics legislation are important, special recognition should be given to the concept of conflict of interest for government employees and board members. Specifically, no board member, employee or family member associated with Linn-Benton Community College may accept, directly or indirectly, any substantial rebate, service, gift, compensation, money, promise, or contract for future compensation from any person or organization to whom a promise or purchase order is awarded in which the college has an interest. Also, no board member, employee or family member shall further their personal gain or avoid expense by information gained as a result of their district association.
If an employee or a board member has any questions regarding government ethics or a possible conflict of interest, prior to proceeding with an agreement or exchange, they should seek advance clarification by contacting the Vice President of Finance and Operations, or the Director of Human Resources.
