Accessible Technology
Purpose
Linn-Benton Community College is committed to ensuring that all information is accessible in accordance with applicable law. This rule has been established to ensure all persons with disabilities have access to information that is equitable to those without disabilities. Information shall be perceivable; operable; understandable; and interpreted/usable with contemporary assistive technologies, tools, and associated methodologies.
This policy is in accordance with federal and state laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Amendments of Act of 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation act as amended. The purpose of this policy is to provide processes by which college administrators, faculty, and staff will ensure equal and effective electronic and information access.
Statement
- LBCC commits to making materials and services accessible from the point of design or purchase. These include (but are not limited to) textbooks available in accessible formats, websites, software, learning platforms, handouts, and publications.
- All digital information, including (but not limited to) web-based content, electronic documents, instructional materials, video, audio and multimedia, must comply with the most recent W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Level AA. Level AA is an intermediate requirement level of WCAG that covers accessibility issues such as closed captioning for videos, contrast ratio, and ease of navigation.
- All non-digital materials and content including (but not limited to) books, manuals, handouts, and photographs shall also meet ADA accessibility standards.
- Exceptions to this policy may be granted by the Director of Accessibility Resources. The Director will determine how to achieve LBCC values and fulfill legal responsibilities.
