Surgical Technologist
Surgical technologists are an integral part of the operating room team. Right now, surgical technology is a high-demand profession leading to many surgical facilities offering tuition reimbursement and sign-on bonuses for new employees! LBCC's two-year, six-term Associates of Applied Science Surgical Technology program focuses on teaching theory and the application of sterile technique in the real-world setting. This program combines the knowledge of microbiology, human anatomy, and various surgical specialties to facilitate the best possible outcome for the patient. Surgical technology is an ideal career for people seeking a stable, hands-on working environment within the medical field.
The mission of the LBCC program is to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. Our students acquire hands-on skills while practicing in LBCC's lab as well as clinical experience from a working operating room. Learn from our faculty of CSTs.
Surgical technologists are certified following successful completion of a CAAHEP-accredited program and the national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
For students interested in taking the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) examination and becoming a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), we offer the course ST 105: Sterile Processing. It includes 33 hours of online didactic instruction and 44 hours of hands-on, in-person lab work. Learn more about ST 105.
