TITLE: ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS, DATA EQUIPMENT, COMPUTER, PRINTING, AND MEDIA EQUIPMENT USE
PURPOSE
To establish practices for the appropriate use of electronic communications, data
equipment, media services, printing services, and computers in conducting college
business.
STATEMENT
ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS
The college will use electronic communication methods to conduct official and legal
college business. Communicating to LBCC employees and students via electronic communication
methods will speed the delivery of information and will offer fiscal savings to the
college by reducing mailing costs. If a student provides an email address on their
FAFSA or in the student information system, the college may use it, in addition to
their college-provided email address, when applicable, for other college communications
in addition to the purposes of financial aid.
Recipients will be expected to read all electronic communication relating to LBCC business and, when necessary, take action as a result of communications received from the college. It is expected that students and employees will monitor their college electronic accounts often to receive the most up-to-date information from the college.
DATA EQUIPMENT USE
The college will not authorize or engage in commercial use of data equipment. The
college administration may assist public agencies with electronic data requests when
appropriate. The college may recover costs associated with providing requested information
to non-Linn-Benton Community College requestors. College administration may charge
for use of data equipment for instruction when appropriate.
MEDIA SERVICES
Media Services may make college equipment and services available for use by community
groups and organizations. Media Services will meet the college needs prior to making
such equipment and services available to community groups and organizations.
PRINTING SERVICES
Printing Services may offer materials and services to outside groups and organizations.
Printing Services will meet the college needs prior to offering materials and services
to nonprofit groups and tax-supported organizations.
COMPUTER USAGE
The college will promote ethical and legal use of its computer resources by staff,
students, and the public. Account theft, file theft, violations of informational privacy,
and/or harm to systems is prohibited. Use of computer resources for any purpose that
violates federal or state laws, including copyright and licensing laws, is prohibited.
