  • Why Should You Get a Degree in Music?

The music program provides students an opportunity to learn, grow, and engage. You will learn common knowledge that all musicians use to speak about and perform music as a professional. You will grow in your art and become the musician you wish to become. You will gain the knowledge needed to engage the community around you in music so that your talent is shared with those who need it most. The Music program at LBCC offers students academic opportunities in music and gives them a chance to participate in top-quality performing ensembles, including the LBCC Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and co-curricular vocal a cappella groups. Students can also participate in instrumental ensembles in cooperation with the Oregon State University Music Department. Auditions may be required for some performance ensembles. Students can work on individual music skills and take some of the preliminary music courses needed for transfer to a four-year college or university. Upon graduation, they can enter the world of the music business, education or musical theater.

Joshua Rist, Composer/Educator - McNary High School Choral Director

"I would not be able to do what I love everyday without LBCC. When I first joined LBCC, a friend convinced me to drop into the choir room to meet the choir director. The choir director welcomed me and asked me to sing for him on the spot. I was nervous but he believed in me and insisted that I sign up for choir. I remember leaving that room thinking to myself, "I'm a singer now!" Singing in the LBCC choir is one of the most cherished memories of my life. It made me feel like I was a part of a real community, like I was integral to something bigger than myself, and it opened up my senses and spirit to a whole new level of aesthetic experience that left a deep and life-altering impression on me. My experience at LBCC was the first step in my decision to pursue a career in choral music education. It lit a fire in my soul that I work diligently to pass on to my students. I feel incredibly fortunate to make art and influence young people to become their best selves on a daily basis, and I have to give credit to LBCC for helping me discover my passion and calling."

  • Boys and Girls Club Programs

We believe in helping you become a smarter and more accomplished musician. But, we also believe that music is meant to be shared. Your passion for music should not only benefit you but the community around you.

Since Fall of 2016, Linn-Benton Community College Music and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Corvallis and Albany have collaborated on an after-school music program that serves the students of the area. Each week, four Music Education majors at LBCC, go out to BGC-Albany and BGC-Corvallis to teach a general music program from students grades 2-5. It is our chance to share our passion with those around us.

Share your passion. Join LBCC music.

  • Co-Curricular Ensembles

The Linn-Benton Community College Music Program is currently home to two Contemporary Vocal A cappella Ensembles, The Sirens and Blue Light Special.

What is Contemporary Vocal A cappella?

A cappella was the first music, and has always been an important part of popular culture, from Madrigals to Barbershop to Doo Wop. Now we call it "Contemporary A cappella" and it covers pretty much every style of music around the globe, including rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, country, jazz, etc.

There are tens of thousands of Contemporary A cappella groups around the US and world, ranging from high school and college ensembles to professionals and recreational groups. There are also countless fans of Contemporary A cappella, some who sang, and others who are familiar with the style having seen it on TV (The Sing-Off, Pitch Perfect, Glee), heard it on the radio, watched it at a local festival, etc (Courtesy of CASA.org).

    What We Do?

We make music, arrange many of our own songs and songs popular today, sing, compete, beat-box, and more!
